We use (and reuse) these with Ball-branded white plastic lids (so not in a hot canning process). The only downside we have found is that strong odors such as onion seem to penetrate the silicone and take a long time to dissipate. The new seals were slightly thinner and narrower than the original. We had jars from different places and the seals seem to work fine on most a few were a little loose. That being said, they seem to be good quality and are what we were looking for. These are nice a thick and stay in place inside the mason jar lid. I tried another brand and it was too thin for what I needed (keeping the water in the jar when traveling or when the jar got knocked over while out in the yard or in the car. The thinner ones would fall into the jar rather than staying in place. These are the ones I recommend if you are moving your jar around and need the seal to stay where you put it.Great value for the price. Fit snugly. Would order them again.Using these is environmentally friendly. They are great for jams and jellies. At this time I am uncomfortable using them with pressure canned meats, rather safe than sorry! However, I haven't been canning very long and may change my mind as I get more experience.Work great . I never had a problem with just the white lids but read some reviews and just for backup I bought some of these and they seem quite nice and just feel like they give you that little bit of extra protection you might be looking for incase your jars fall over on their side. These works great! I make my homemade soups for the week for my lunch at work. I use the plastic lids that are made for the canning jars but they leak. Now I have no more messy leaks in my lunch box.BTW: My homemade soups make everyone jealous at work. They make the lunch room smell wonderful.,plus so much healthier!GREAT re-usable seal when used with the white mason jar plastic lids. Other seals tended to leak. These never have. They seal TIGHT.... sometimes it takes a bit of muscle to open them back up, but I prefer that over leaking seals.
