This is a stunning bento box. I got the 40 oz black bamboo design.First of all, it is beautiful. The artwork on the top is stunning. It is calming to look at. The wooden cutlery set is beautiful as well. I think this is as much a work of art as it is a kitchen/food storage item.The 40oz set came with a bamboo lid with wooden cutlery. There are 2 main food storage compartments that are identical in size. There are 2 dividers and 2 sauce containers as well. The main containers do fit into one another nicely, however, they are not bound together by anything other than the strap.The set holds enough food for a medium to large sized adult lunch (I guess depending on your appetite). The box is well made and sturdy. The lids to each container fit snug. There is a rubbery ring on the inside of each lid to the main containers to help make a snug fit. There are built in vents if you want some air circulation for your food.The set is very easy to clean. There aren't any deep lips you have to worry about which is so nice.Overall, I think this is a wonderful product. I think it is a beautiful gift idea. It is practical yet also beautiful. It works both as a lunch box or added food storage for your own food at home. I'm just really impressed with the overall design.This is a nice little bento box kit, but it's not quite what I want from a compact lunch box. Here are my pros and cons.Pros:- I love that the kit includes sauce containers, adjustable dividers, and utensils including chopsticks.- The design is aesthetically pleasing, it has a classic Japanese look to it.- Great for portion control.- Great for packing several different foods.Cons:- The top and bottom compartments as well as the top bamboo lid are held in place by an elastic strap only which makes me worry about them coming apart in my backpack.- It's more difficult than I expected to get the lids on and off of the compartments, the vacuum seal plug is too fiddly.- The containers don't hold very much food. I was hoping to get two good meals out of the kit per day as I am away from home for 12+ hours per day and often do fitness classes after work, but it doesn't hold enough for me.- The sauce containers are a nice size, but the diameter makes it kind of difficult to put some sauces into, especially condiments that need to be spooned in like peanut butter.- The sauce containers need to be put into the compartments along with your lunch, so they take away space that could be used for food.- The compartment dividers don't stay in place very well and they're definitely not leak-proof.I got the single level box for my 8 year old's lunch; I can tell already it will be a little big for holding the unwrapped portions of her lunch (things that aren't very wet, like strawberries, baby carrots, maybe watermelon would be the wettest). It's deep enough I feel like I could stack a small sandwich in there too. We have a planetbox, I like the metal but it's heavy and the compartments really constrain what you can put in there. Good if your kid will only eat the same thing each day, I guess. This is going to be a lot lighter, a lot nicer to use each day, and a lot more flexible.The color is pretty, and the strap is easy enough for her to get on (once I showed her how to brace it). I kind of like the slightly pebbled texture of this kind of plastic, reminds me of the tupperware of my childhood. Maybe should have gotten avocado green? I don't think the top-most lid is dishwasher safe but all the parts that touch food/might get moldy from being left in a kid's backpack over the weekend (don't judge) seem to be. And the form factor is much better for the dishwasher than the planetbox.I got one of the small square lunch bags (https://smile.amazon.com/Cartoon-Reusable-Insulated-Container-Shopping/dp/B09TSTSPC5/) to put it into and it fits perfectly with plenty of room for a canned water or 12 oz water bottle, an apple or banana, small thermos jar, and a bag of goldfish (that's more about the bag than the bento, I guess). Le pot à sauce doit absolument être repensé.La photo de la lunchbox garnie a été prise juste après l'avoir reçue. Les autres photos ont été prises après 6 mois d'utilisation 5 jours/semaine.Après plusieurs utilisations quotidiennes pour mes repas du midi je suis déçu par ce bento annoncé comme un bon milieu de gamme.Premier gros défaut; il n'est pas étanche. La faute à l'élastique censé maintenir les compartiments et le couvercle soudés ensemble qui n'est pas assez serré une fois en place. Il n'est pas rare d'avoir des fuites durant le transport (même en faisant attention à le poser bien à plat).Deuxième problème selon moi; le matériau fait vraiment bon marché. Le plastique imitation bambou n'est pas réussi, ça ne respire pas la qualité, dommage pour un produit à ce tarif.Je conseille de se diriger vers un autre produit (autre marque ?) si vous recherchez un bento utilisable au quotidien.I have just received this nifty little bento box, which will presumably serve as usefully as any other leak proof bento box. As mentioned by another reviewer, the little sauce tub is too tall to fit inside the box and allow the seal to close properly, which I think is a design flaw, though I suspect I am supposed to purchase a carry bag for everything for an additional tenner. The box over all isn't quite as sturdy as I had anticipated, and the "Bamboo" lid which I had naively expected to be real bamboo is simply simulated plastic. It seems otherwise sound with silicone seals to both compartments and the quality is acceptable, though probably not quite to the price paid.I paid around £25.49, reduced from £29.99 on a special deal. The original Umami Bento box price is quoted on the Amazon web page as £49.99. I am not complaining about any of that. I made a choice on price, it will serve a purpose. and I cannot be faffed to return it.What I am complaining about, is that on returning to the relevant Amazon web page to check out the finer points of the silicone seals, I was today confronted by an advertisement for another leakproof bento box which appears, from all details and photographs, to be exactly the same product sold by a different company for £14.99, although it doesn't include the little sauce pot. There are many reviews and it has been on sale on Amazon since Feb 2017, so it hasn't just made an appearance over the last couple of days. I made a pretty comprehensive search of all bento boxes on the day of my purchase, so why didn't I find it? Perhaps I just didn't see it, but it's not the first time I've had that sort of experience on Amazon.So if you are looking for a leak proof two tier bento box make sure you hunt very carefully, because you could be paying very different prices for what appear to be very similar products.
